Botak Jones Again!

Went to Botak Jones TPY Lor 1 again, this time with H.
Seems I'm hooked to this american foodie joint!
I recalled how yummy the ribeye steak looks the other time my other friends had it,
so I ordered the ribeye steak 200 gms medium well and H had the lamb chops. She commented that it was still quite a nice cosy place though it was in a 'Off' location.

My ribeye steak was chunky & juicy.
Again it came with a huge portion of coleslaw & crinkle-cut spicy fries!
We took our time to eat at a leisurely pace and I must admit I still have a hard time gobbling up 200 gms of hunky beef!
Later, we shared a Oreo Cheesecake.
H & I were surprised at how small it was.....
just a cube size (maybe 6cm by 6cm).
But we were deceived....
One bite & you are in Cheesecake Heaven!
It had Oreo crumbs generously sprinkled on top.
The middle had a good texture, nicely heavy & creamy...
like all good cheesecakes should!
And held up by a moist tart base.
Great things do come in small packages!
We chatted til 10pm... it was such a nice time!

SFF '07

Me & some friends were invited by D to his show at SFF (Singapore Fashion Festival) at the Tent at Ngee Ann City
It was a local designers show titled "Singapore Fashion Rules!"
On the invite card, it says the show was to start at 12.
(though we know its more politically correct to usually start a fashion show fashionably late)
I was dressed in my vintage Byblos baby-blue sweater over a black shirt, pale-grey skinny pants & sandals.
Thought I looked just right.... didn't want to look TOO sharply dressed up for a Sunday yet don't wanna look too dressed down casual like something the cat dragged in.
Hey I may have lost a lot of weight and maybe killed some brain cells thru all the treatments BUT I haven't lost my sense of style!
The show opens with 10 sparkling white & red Vespas zooming in, fetching the models in....
Oh... *cough!, cough!*......... most of the audience was suffocating from the monoxide exhaust fumes!
The next few sequences showed 5 local labels, very wearable & sellable (read as 'mundane' & 'safe')
The Grand Finale was the highlight!
Featuring more than a dozen local celebrity designers!........
like Tan Yoong, Celia Loe, Daniel Yam, David Wang, Frederick Lee and many others, each showing one outfit on a veteran model or supermodel from the 80's!
(What a surprise Blast from the Past!)
I could recognise some of the models that were real big names in the 80's, like Serene & Lillian.
Some still didn't change very much & looks as gorgeous.... thank God!
Anyway here are some pics of the show.....
Pardon the blurriness cos its taken from my SonyEricsson camera phone. It usually takes clear beautiful pictures but seems its not too good at capturing moving targets.

Botak Jones

So good that appetite is up! tho I'm stil easily tired & abit groggy from the meds.
This evening, went TPY Lor 1 to check out the new outlet of Botak Jones.
Its actually next to SPH press centre, in a industrial food centre.
Its a weird location but seems its already starting to do brisk business.
I've heard so much raves about it & was so excited to finally try it!
Waited about 20 minutes for my order.....
Its my first time there so I started with the basic 'Botak Burger Set' that comes with spicy fries & coleslaw.

The portions are so huge!
Especially the fries.... covered almost half my plate!
The beef patty was thick & cooked medium well, so it retains its natural juciness ;)~
Yum........
Just as I started to dig in, by coincidence I met a group of fellow stompers!
Familiar pals like twinkles, black, croc, DK, Johan etc & some new frens I met for the 1st time.
Moved my food & stuff to their table and we had such a great evening of sinful food & casual banter!
Isn't that what life's moments are all about.....
Enjoying good food and frens, etc.... ;)
that makes Life so worth living for!

This evening, I went to Plaza S'pura with pal P.
Had a craving for burger and we went Carl's Jr.
I ordered this sante fe chicken burger....a little spicy, tangy. Quite nice.
Then, we went walk around & I had a macadamia nut ice-cream on a cone from Andersen's!

Talk about eating without guilt.....
The best part about being skinny is that I can eat anything I want!

Went Carrefour, managed to find beetroot!
Its about a dollar each for a beetroot thats about the size of a thai mini coconut.
Its not easily available and you can't find it at NTUC or Cold Storage either.
Some friends have been telling me that beetroot has detoxifying properties
& cleansing the blood.
It'd be good if I could take it regularly, especially after chemo.

Later at 9pm, we went to watch "Dreamgirls".
Jennifer hudson was FAB!!
She has a much bigger voice & literally stole the show from Beyonce.
The musical style made it lite & digestible though some parts towards the end got a little draggy.
But still I thoroughly enjoyed it!!
All-Star casts, great soundtrack, beautiful costumes, hip trendy furniture that made part of the sets......
Overall a good show. Loved it! Worth your every dollar.

Gucci Fall Winter 07/08 Menswear Full Show.

Seems skinny hipster pants and hand-carry duffel bags are still in......
The male models these days are so lean, almost on the verge of skinny.
Now that I've lost 8kgs these past few weeks (Not that I want to), I'm now at my lightest ever!
Oh well, anyway thin is 'In' if they say so......

To Market, to Market

Woke up early this morning.
Decide to follow Mom to the market.
We had breakfast at the food centre adjacent to it.
I had a hearty appetite today!
Had Nasi Lemak, then you-cha-kue (fried fritters) with soybean.
Not ate so full for a long time.
Then off we went to buy veggies & fish, etc from the market.
Its been such a long time that I've gone to a wet market. Nowadays it looks very different from the wet markets of the old days.
Not as smelly... and not as wet.
The old ones used to be wet & dirty.
(God forbid that you should ever slip & fall)
In the old days, as a child I remember they actually keep their chickens there.
You pick & choose the one you want and it will be freshly slaughtered & de-feathered right in front of you.... Yikes.

I love Ty Bears!

I love Ty Bears!! I know I'm a little grown-up to have teddy bears but I only collect them.

Since childhood, I have been collecting stuff toys thru'out my regular travels (my Mom was a teacher & I was fortunate to travel to the US, Europe & many other countries every June & Dec holidays, even when I was a child) and I managed to build a collection of more than 30, all in different shapes & sizes. I had a large made-in-USA Mickey Mouse, Harrods bear from London, a baby lamb plush from Australia, Smurf, Garfield, Mo-Guai (the cutesy one b4 it turns gremlins), a very adorable bear from Japan, etc.

One day after booking out from National Service, I came home to find my entire closet of stuff toys GONE!!
I asked my Mom where have they gone.....
She said,"You so BIG already, still keep stuff toys for what? I gave it all to your young cousins!"
OMG!! It was one of the most traumatic things ever in my Life!
There were so much memories & sentimental value to them!
It took me awhile to get over it..... and I still do miss & think about it.....
cos its was still very much a part of my childhood.

Ever since then, thru my 20's I've started to rebuild a small modest collection. Now I probably have a dozen, mostly small ones, which are mostly gifts from friends.
I happen to have 3 Ty Bears.

Left-Right: Grizzwald, Herald & Valentina.
Grizzwald is my fave!
He is always with me thru'out every stay in hospital.
Herald is like a guardian angel.
Valentina is I think a valentine's edition.
But I love the entire Ty collection!
They come in an assortment of other animals. All with names & birthdates!
And there are limited editions or special hollday editions.

Chinese New Year's Eve

Today, I'm still reeling from the side effects of the medications that I'm still on.
Feeling dazed & groggy...

My sis, Karen & Vivien came by in the late aftn.
Mom says we'd not have steamboat for a change.
Anyway, what's so nice about steamboat?
Everything taste bland & almost the same after you cook it. Duh.
For our reunion dinner, our maid Muji cooked up a feast of chilli king prawns, curry chicken, sea cucumber with asstd veg, etc.
Thank God my appetite is picking up....
After which I had some standard CNY cookies & goodies too!
Pineapple tart, Bangkit cookies, etc...
and Bak Kwa (BBQ pork jerky slices)!!
I know its not good for you but I only had a small slice ;)
Just glad to be home for the holidays!

Happy Lunar New Year!!
